REPORTS:

Charlie Flounder

UPDATE APRIL 7, 2008:  Well guys our first week of 2008 is over, the weather was DEFINATLY against us, but the boat HAS BEEN out fishing everyday with the exception of last Friday. Braving wind, rain and cold tempatures our passengers have seen flounders on virtually every drop we have made all week. Definatly not great fishing by far but a couple to a few fish each spot. Incoming tide has been better than the outgoing, which is usually the case in the early season. On Sunday passengers had to endure the outgoing current all day hence a tough day fish wise. High hooks this week was today Monday Vinny Mauro and Charlie Brower combined for 12 flounders. Most fish have been caught on Sandworm mussel combos. Our $500.00 flounder derby leader is Joe Russo with a 2.68 lb. flounder. Last Tuesdays first fish of the season free trip went to Eddie Bush catching it just minutes into our first drop, way to go Eddie and Joe!!!

This week we will have the in our favor as well as temperatures predicted to be in the 60's, this should be the week the fishing breaks wide open! Don't wait too long to come down this should be an exciting week! For your BEST shot at FLOUNDERS remember guys" No ONE KNOWS JAMAICA BAY AND THE GIANT FLOUNDER THAT LIVE THERE LIKE THE CREW
OF THE CAPT. MIKE"

Update March 24, 2008:  Well winter is finally over!! We spent a couple weeks in the shipyard this season, we overhauled engines, put new propellers, new zincs and a brand new paint job. Did all required coast guard inspections and are ready to rock n roll. We will begin our 2008 season on Tuesday April 1 at 8am for GIANT JAMAICA BAY FLOUNDERS!!

I didnt take any trips this winter, with the exception of Block Island over my birthday weekend, beautiful place, but in the winter not too much to do. Did spend a few days with by buddies on the Viking Fleet got in on some of the best local codfishing they ever seen. Even moonlighted one day working deck for them. That was fun to relace my mate boots once again. My hands still hurt from filetting codfish.

Dont forget our location 159-35 Crossbay Blvd across street from McDonalds. 2008 will be our 27 season in Howard Beach, thank you for your loyalty.

In true Capt. Mike fashion we begun the job on Sat. afternoon. It was a pretty big job as more than 1/2 the engine had to come apart in order to remove the old power head and replace it with a new. We got finished this morning Tuesday, and are back and race ready tomorrow WED morning.

What a DAY!!!

Reports May 6; 2007:    Hi guys FLOUNDER FISHING "Down the Beach" did peter out a lil bit towards the end of the week. The bluefish invaded the local waters on Thursday and it seemed to put the flounders in shock and the fish dug themselves to hide.. Who can blame them. High hooks were still goingh 8-9 fish on Thurs and Friday but it wasnt the BOAT LIMIT OUT FLOUNDER fishing we had earlier in the week. On Sat. we experienced a very slow pick on the flounders down south, so I decided to try some of our offshore flounder spots. We did catch the ling very well on our offshore flounder drops on Sat. but the flounders were non existant from the deep water drops which tells me, that the flounders did not move off the beach yet, they are just a little bit razzled by the bluefish and should bounce back in a few days..."It aint over yet!!"
Sundays gale force easterly winds kept us fishing local with a very light crowd. We made a combo trip for the day. We made two local flounder drops, both drops came up empty. Then we did some bunker chunking, and caught the BLUEFISH very very well, VERY close to home. After we all got our fill of the blues, we put the FLUKE baits on around 1pm, and found pretty decent fluking within minutes from our dock. Lou from Long Island had 2 of the 8 keepers we boated in a short time. His biggest was 5.8 lbs. There wqas also some short action. We will comtinue to do COMBO trips...FLOUNDER/FLUKE until the FLUKE arrive in force sailing EVERYDAY at 8am returning around 3pm. FULL DAY IS THE ONLY WAY!

Our 5pm STRIPED BASS TRIPS were also very good this weekend, on Friday nite, we began the trip bunker chunking, and only a few BLUEFISH were boated, around 7pm I dsecided to do a lil bit of Ole school wormin, and we found a load of STRIPED BASS too bad there were all schoolies, but everyone had a ball catching and releasing at least 10-12 per passenger. SAT nite, again we started the trip bunker chunking, within minutes from our dock, this time fishing was EXCEPTIONAL, for BLUEFISH from 6-10 lbs and 3 keeper STRIPED BASS including boat regular Al pool winner of 18 lbs. It was one drop shopping for the nite and all passengers had a ball. Limit blues all around. We sail on our AFTERNOON STRUIPED BASS AND BLUEFISH trips on WED, FRI, SAT, and SUN nites at 5pm returning to the dock around 10pm.

Dont forget on the 70' twin diesel Capt. Mike we offer:
Seperate mens and ladies accomodations

The gang from Yorktown April 5 2007

UPDATE APRIL 5, 2007:  Thats right guys this is our 26th season sailing out of Howard Beach, wed like to thank you all for the past 25 and hope # 26 is the best yet.

On Sunday April 1, Our 26th Opening Day was a huge success, despite chilly temperatures and a stiff breeze a big crowd enjoyed our 70' vessel, for a day out on the flounder grounds. Flounders were caught at just about every drop we made, and at the end of the day our expert crew fileted around 50 or so, Jamaica Bay flounders, including Judys 1.8 lb pool fish. Most fish were caught on combo baits.

On Monday April 2, a light crowd experienced the best fishing on the 1st of the ebb tide, Thats been a daily thing so far, the best bite all week the beginning of the ebb. Jack Lyons won the pool on Monday with a 2.18 lb. pool fish.

On Tuesday we were able to drift a bit, and we caught flounders driftin, all the way in the back. The morning was ok, for some reason we lost all life in the afternoon... no matter where we tried. Mussels were the preferred bait, while the fish were on the feed bag.

On Wed, April 4 WE DID SAIL in the wind and the pouring rain!!We spent the day tucked inside of Smittys, and the few brave fisherman were rewarded with tasty flounders dinner for their efforts. Vinny Mauro won todays pool.

On Thursday April 5, The crew from Yorktown, experienced cold temperatures, howling winds, and snow showers. However in between warming up inside our spacious cabin, fishing was pretty good, despite the weather, a sure sign of things to come. Fish were caught in Smittys, in between bridges on change of tide and at another drop on the 1st of the outgoing, which proved to be the best drop so far of this still young flounder season, as 18 keepers came out of this one drop alone. Once the current started to get too strong we  fired up our two big diesels and proceeded to the back where we caught the pool fish, among a few others.

So far this season we have caught a few fish on pretty much every drop we have made with the exception of a few spots on a some afternoons. The weather hasnt been the best yet either, but passengers have been enjoying out full sized heated cabin, to warm up in, between the action. Once the weather breaks I expect our area to explode with flounders, since we are seeing fish everyday een with our current weather trend.

We sail for flounders everyday 7 days a week at 8am returning around 3 pm. Remember guys..." NO OONE KNOWS JAMAICA BAY... AND THE GIANT FLOUNDERS THAT LIVE THERE LIKE THE CREW OF THE CAPT. MIKE"

Vinny Mauro with 12 lb JAMAICA BAY DOORMAT 5/24/06

UPDATE MAY 24 2006:  just in time for the Memorial Day Weekend the Fluke fishing has EXPLODED inside Jamaica Bay, this week alone has seen many many limits caught... The bigger fish of the week (Since Sunday)include, 11 yr old Jonathan Bma with a 9 lb Fluke, Ryan Taylor with a 7 lb Fluke, Tony Pret with a 6 lb Fluke, Jerry Foreman with a 7 lb Fluke......AND VINNY MAURO with a DOORMAT 12 lb... 33"LONG, 6" THICK MONSTER FLUKE....All these fish were caught since Sunday 5/21, and remember we went on our full day Striped Bass and Blue trip yesterday... So all these big fish came up in the LAST 3 FLUKE TRIPS.... NOW IS THE TIME.... FISHING JUST MINUTES FROM THE DOCK!!!! The photos are on our website and on NOREAST pic board. We sail for FLUKE Everyday except TUESDAYS, at 8am returning around 3 pm..

Our TUESDAY SPECIAL STRIPED BASS and BLUE TRIP was a massacre on BLUEFISH with only a few keeper Striped Bass mixed in, We only had 10 passengers on the boat.. It was easily a full boat limit on the bluefish, passengers even began to throw them back when everything was full. We jigged the beaches along Jersey for this monster catch... We do these trips EVERY TUESDAYS ONLY at 8am returning around 3:30pm.

NITE STRIPED BASS, WEAKFISH and BLUES.... Our afternoon 5pm - 10 pm trips have been SUPER DUPER we have been diamond jigging the STRIPED BASS and Bluefish during the daylight hours, and the fishing has been incredible. Especially for the BLues... After Dark we put the worms on and the fishing has been very good... Twice this week we had over 15 keeper stripers on the boat, and God only knows how many hundreds of blues have been caught on these trips also. We do these trips every Wed, Fri Sat, Sun and Mon afternoon at 5pm-10pm. We like the 5pm departure because it gives up the dusk diamond jig bite, that at times can be absolutely insane in our inlet. Sorry guys but out 5pm trip for Saturday May 27 is sold out. We did add a SPECIAL STRIPED BASS trip for Saturday May 27 at 9pm returning around 1am. There r still opening for this trip.

Well... What r u waiting for, the weather finally broke.... Fishing is RED HOT....Get your grar and climb on board

Stripers May 17

May 17 2006 Update:

Hey guys; Sorry for such a long time between updates. We just got off of what was probably one of the BEST FLOUNDER SEASONS in YEARS!!! We had many many limits both inside our bay and down the Jersey shore. One trip that was most memorable was 62 passengers on the boat with over 450 flounders boated, back in April. We are now fluking in the day and Striped Bass and Bluefishing in the evenings.

FLUKE FISHING
harry and vinny
We began FLUKE fishing on our all day trips on May 6 2006. The season began slow with only a few keepers and few shorts, since then we have seen a few 6 and 7 lb. fish. Vinny Mauro had two keepers of 7 and 6.2 lbs on Fri May 12. We have been fluke fishing both inside our bay and outside our bay. The action with the shorts has picked up, and the number of keepers continue to rise each trip. We also have seen some bluefish and sea bass on these trips. We sail on our fluke trips everyday 8am returning around 3 pm. With the exception of Tuesdays. Tuesdays are for our full day STRIPED BASS and BLUEFISH TRIPS. and WOW those have been AMAZING! As so has our 5pm trips.

Last Wed trip May 17 we had a full boat limit on STRIPED BASS 20 heepers and a full boat limit on BLUES 150, for 10 passengers, and I expect the same fishing tonite..Sorry to say but our next two Sat nite trips May 20 and 27 the 5pm trips are sold out. eRNIE WITH A DOUBLE HEADER

FRI APRIL 7 2006 Update: Saturday April 1, The season opened and the fish cooperated a bit. We had a large crowd and proceeded to land 40 flounders up to 2.5 lbs. Most fish were caught on mussels and sandworms.

Sunday April 2, With another large crowd, 75 flounders were boated with John Broda high hook with his limit (of 10)plus an extra one that he threw in his sons bucket. Ask me where on the boat was he fishing, RIGHT NEXT TO JACK lol.

Monday April 3-7, Really light crowds all week long, we sailed on every scheduled trip. On Monday Jack Lyons redeemeed himself by catching a true GIANT JAMAICA BAY FLOUNDER of 19" long 3.72 lbs. Of Course he won the pool, way to go Jack. He is also our current leader in our $500.00 Flounder derby. Evebn on Wed before the blizzard like conditions spoiled the day the flounders had the feed bag on in the Head of the Bay and most passengers had 4 or 5 flounders, before the snow ruined the fishing. Flounder fishing was good all week with the exception of Thurs. when only a few flounders were boated. Probably due to the snow storm of Wed dropping the water temperatures. The bite bounced back on Friday, Mike Arma and Daniel combined for 18 Flounders up to Mikes Armas 2.7 lb Flounder.

Remember guys " NO ONE KNOWS JAMAICA BAY AND THE GIANT FLOUNDER THAT LIVE THERE LIKE THE CREW OF THE CAPT. MIKE"

AFTERNOON STRIPED BASS TRIPS BEGIN SAT APRIL 15 5pm returning around 10pm. STRIPED BASS EVERY MON WED FRI SAT AND SUN AT 5PM

opening day ling

Update March 14, 2006:OPENING DAY! We were eager to get the season started and on Saturday Morning, 15 passengers joined us on our season opener. We began inshore around Scotland Rocks area, and caught nothing on our first drop. I decided to go to deeper water and our next drop was in the 17 fathoms area. Fishing different pieces between 90-110' of water we put together a decent catch of ling and a few blackfish (although most blackfish were shorts) . Our best drop of the day was our last drop, I wanted to try something I had a lil bit deeper in 125' water lil bit further south than 17 fathoms. We had a pretty decent shot of big ling here and stayed out a little late due to Great weathr and good fishing. Most passengers had 5-8 delicous ling a person with the pool fish going around 5 lbs.

On Sunday despite the rainy weather 12 passengers came down to the boat in the morning and away we went fishing. I ran the boat straight past 17 to where we finished up the day before. We sat on that drop for almost 3 hours. Catching Jumbo Ling, some Blackfish and we even managed two sea bass. When the tide changed the fishing slowed up and we bounced around a few more pieces I had in the deeper water for a few more ling and blackfish. Total for the day included, Joe Pace and Gaspar Ciaravino combined catch with 32 delicious ling to 4.5 lbs. John Nose with 17 ling and two keeper blacks, two other gentlemen whom I forgot to get their names combined for 27 ling, and even I got into the action by catching 19 jumbo ling myself. All total we boated over 200 ling for 12 passengers, on Sunday up too Fred Bayer's 6 lb pool. No it wasn't a blackfish it was a 6 lb LING!!! Gaspere Bonura also deserves accommodation by boating a 5 1/2 lb. ling. The seas were flat calm, the fishing very good, but we did have the rain, and thats why they make raingear. A GREAT DAY had by all.

UPDATE FEB 23, 2006: Hey guys long time since last update, Harry, Jimmy and I have spent the winter, painting, refurbishing, and improving what is already a known fish killer, the mv Capt. Mike. As I write this we have just returned this afternoon from our annual winter haul out. In addition to the normal work the shipyard entails (paint bottom, change zincs) we changed propellers, bearings, had our drydock and internal structural exam by the Coast Gaurd and passed  with flying  colors so much so that we were back in the water later on the same afternoon that our inspection was.  We hauled the boat on Feb 11 same day as the blizzard and were halted from any work till Monday morning. Went back in water on Feb 21. The boat is now back in Howard Beach and ready to go.

A little change in schedule this season. As everyone knows for years we have been starting with winter flounders on opening day of flounder season. This year with the official opening day of flounder season STILL AS I WRITE THIS UNDECIDED, by the DEC, and the weather being pretty nice all winter, We will begin our season, BLACKFISH and LING fishing on SATURDAY MARCH 11, 2006 sailing at 8am returning around 4pm. SAILING EVERYDAY! Then once the season officially opens for the winter flounder OF COURSE, the Capt. Mike will switch over for WINTER FLOUNDER, (my gut feeling will be April 1 opening for flounders, HOPEFULLY NO LATER)

Thats right guys in two weeks we will start sailing EVERYDAY!  I cant wait. I know you cant also.

November 16 2005 update:  The Bottom fishing for Blackfish has been pretty good on days when the wind is not howling. Average catch has been between 5-8 keepers a man for those who know what they are doing. Pool fish have been running around 8lbs. There is still some sea bass in the catch everyday and more and more ling are also beginning to show up.

Striped Bass fishing has been good our last 4 trips, have seen on avg 15-18 keepers brought aboard, for small crowds. We have fish in our inlet and even had a few in our bay last weekend. Vinny Mauro had big fish honors last week on Friday nite with a fish on 31 lbs. caught on an eel.

Guys the fall is here, NOW is the time for Big STRIPED BASS and BLACKFISH and with plenty of elbow room at the rails, come on down dont miss your chance. We have a special BLACKFISH MARATHON TRIP on Fri NOV 25 6am-5pm and  a special Flounder trip on Sat NOv 26 at 8am-3:30 pm. Otherwise full day blackfish everyday 8am-3:30pm.

October 16 2005 update: After 8 days of rain totaling almost 13" I really didnt expect too much once we finally got out this weekend. I was pleasantly surprised. We sailed on our full day trips both Sat and Sun for Blackfish. On Saturday we had good blackfishing for 15 passengers. High hook was Chris Toombs with 8 keepers up to 9 lbs. Plus all the shorts anyone can handle. On Sunday we sailed with 3 passengers and had decent blackfishing in 30-40 kt. winds. Harry Bissell had a 8lb blackfish on Sunday. We sail on our full day bottom fishing trips EVERYDAY targeting BLACKFISH, SEA BASS and PORGYS at 8am returning around 3pm.

For you BLACKFISH DIE HARDS our MARATHON BLACKFISH TRIPS ARE BACK by popular demand. Our first marathon will be this SAT morn. Sailing at 6am returning around 5 pm. Space is limited so book your resv. today. These trips are always alot of fun. Green crabs are provided free on all Full day and Marathon trips.

Striped Bass we didn't sail on Friday nite due to lack of clients with the weather. We did sail on Sat. nite, with a light crowd. We tried all the usual October spots through out Jamaica Bay all the way to Ambrose Channel drifting eels. The final result we had a really tough trip. Maybe the 13" of rain screwed up the fishing. This week looks like a nice week weather wise after yesterdays wind. Hopefully a lil chill this week will bring down the water temps enough to really get the Striped Bass biting for us this weekend. We sail on our STRIPED BASS TRIPS every Fri and Sat nite at 6pm returning around 12am. Live eels are included with your fare.

OCTOBER 9 2005 UPDATE:  The bottom fishing for Blackfish and Sea Bass was very good on every trip the boat made all week, some days it was better Sea Bass fishing others better blackfishing. We supply both green crabs and clams as bait on these trips. The big sea bass of the week was Freddy with a sea bass close to 6 lbs. Joe Russo took big blackfish honors this week with a fish of 7 lbs. We sail everyday for blackfish, sea bass and porgys at 8am returning around 3:30 pm.

BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND, We have a SPECIAL MARATHON BLACKFISH TRIP scheduled for Sat. Oct 22 at 6am returning around 5pm. Thats 11 hour BLACKFISH TRIP!!! How SWEET IS THAT! We will do our SPECIAL MARATHON TRIPS once every two weeks check website under SPECIAL TRIPS LINK for more info.

We did make both STRIPED BASS trips this past weekend, despite advirse weather conditions. Both trips saw a few fisherman brave pouring rain and 25 kt winds at times more. The fishing did suffer from the weather as Friday nite only a handful of fish hit the deck and Saturday night, was even tougher in worse weather conditions. However last Saturday night 14 passengers boated 12 keepers up too 22 lbs. drifting eels along the Jersey Beach. We sail on our Nite Striper Trips every Fri and Sat nite at 6 pm returning around 12 am.

Sept 16 2005 update:   The excellent fluke fishing that we experienced all summer long is coming to an end as it is getting harder and harder to catch any amount of keepers. However the SEA BASS fishing has really taking off. With a better than 70% keeper ratio the fishing has been off the hook all week long. High hooks in the 20's were the norm, throw in a bunch of big PORGIES this has been some excellent fishing. We have been fishing on the local rockpiles and wrecks in the ocean. Action packed trips and full buckets the norm. We have been seeing a couple exotics on these trips also, Jack Crevallys, pilot fish , and triggers were some of the out of the norm fish to hit our deck since we started bottom fishing on Monday. We got BOTTOM FISHING everyday except TUESDAYS at 8am returning around 4pm. We will have crabs as bait come Oct 1 for the BLACKFISH! COME ON DOWN FILL THE FREZER NOW!

BLUEFISHING, what can I say about the bluefishing that I havent already said. We made two trips this week out to the Mud Bouy chumming for Blues, one Sat nite Special and our normal Tuesday morning trip both trips were all out MASSACRES. Full boat limits. Fish up to 14 lbs. Most caught on butterfish, some on bunker chunks. The Albacore made a showing on Tuesday, and we did manage to boat a few, by those who were fishing for them. We will continue our Tuesday FULL DAY BLUEFISH TRIPS every week at 8am-4pm. COME ON DOWN!

STRIPED BASS TRIPS BEGIN ON FRI SEPT 23 at 6pm-12am USING LIVE EELS AS BAIT! RESV ARE SUGGESTED!

Update August 25 2005; Been a long time since our last update, just shows how busy we have been fishing everyday with no time to get to the computer.

FLUKE:Our Fluke trips are still very good with tons and tons of shorts and keepers coming over the rail everyday. Last week saw Kimberly Hanlick land a 10 lb Doormat, also we have been seeing more and more SEA BASS on our FLUKE trips and it is gearing up to be a great fall. We are still fishing Ambrose Channel and our special offshore spots where the true doormat FLUKE and Sea Bass live. We Sail on our FULL DAY FLUKE and SEA BASS trips every day except Tuesdays. at 8am returning around 3:30 pm.

BLUEFISH: What can I say about the bluefishing this year, its been  a  slaughter on every Tuesday trip, all summer with the exception of one trip, in the beginning of August. The fish have been about 2 hours from the dock and staying there. We have been putting a hurting on them every Tuesday on bait and chum. Some Albies have begun to show, We will continue these trips all fall. We depart on our SPECIAL  BLUEFISH TRIPS every Tuesday at 8am returning around 4pm.

Weakfish: Much to my surprise and everyone elses, the Weakies have finally atrrived within the last two weeks, although late, they are here and we have been catching them up every WED FRI SAT SUN and MON afternoon, we leave at 5pm and return around 9pm. Fishing sandworms, filling buckets with the tasty Sea Trout. Also seeing a few Striped Bass beginning to show again as well as the ever present Bluefish.

July 21 2005 Update:

The AMBROSE CHANNEL RUN is ON!!!!

Our FULL DAY BOAT has been fishing AMBROSE CHANNEL for Doormat fluke EVERYDAY since last Thursday, and the EXCEPTIONAL catches continue.

On Todays trip 16 passengers boated 70 keeper fluke up too 7 lbs. Most passengers had there limits. In addition a few hundred shorts also came up.

On Weds trip 40 passengers boated 160 keepers up too 8 lbs. again there were too many limits too mention all the names. Also all the short action anyone can handle.

I know this is an early run for AMBROSE CHANNEL but the fish ARE THERE NOW AND THEY ARE BIG AND HUNGRY!!! COME GET YOURS NOW! This past week has been by far the best fluking I have seen in a couple years.

Tuesday bluefish trip was all all out massacre with bait and chum fishing offshore on 17 fathoms, in addition to the bluefish. A four foot mako shark also took a bluefish hook and the fight was on.....

July 8 2005 Update: Fluke fishing has been fantastic both in the ocean and up in our bay. We have been seeing many many limits everyday. Plus all the action with the shorts anyone can handle. On Sunday July 3, Larry and Jeannie Lynch hammered the fluke, taking their limit of 10 big keepers, and releasing many other keepers and shorts. There is ALOT of fluke around right now guys. Pool fish has been averaging around 6 lbs. We sail full day fluking everyday except Tuesdays, 8 am - 3:30 pm.

Tuesday Full day Striped Bass and Bluefish trips have been off the hook. The catch now has been 95% bluefish, but it has been pull till your arms fall off, on diamond jigs. The fish have been running from 2-10 lbs. with the occasional 12 lier mixing, along with a few Striped Bass up too 20 lbs.

Evening trips every Wed Fri Sat Sun Mon and Wed 5pm - 10 pm. Again have been 95% bluefish, excellent fishing on jigs with a few Stripers still mixed in. We did not sail on a couple trips this past week due to Thunderstorms scaring away the clients. Remember guys, thunderstorms last for 10-15 minutes then they are gone. No need not to come if a thunderstorm is forecasted. As they pass right over quickly, and then it gets nice out again.

We have a special NIGHT BLUEFISH TRIP tomorrow night 6pm - 2 am chumming bluefish.
Call for more info 917 747 4789. Visit us on the web at www.captmike.org

Also we are PROUD to be a place for you to purchase your tickets into the FLUKEMANIA contest with Noreast. I plan on fishing some of my SECRET OFFSHORE fluke spots on July 16 and 17th, for GIANT FLUKE. Remember to purchase your tickets to enter the FLUKEMANIA contest then get on board, and catch a WHOPPER FLUKE with us.
Tuesday June 14 2005 Update:Tuesday June 7 ALL OUT SLAUGHTER FISHING FOR ALLIGATOR BLUEFISH and Giant Stripers on our marathon trip. Easy limit for 28 passengers with the bluefish up too 12 lbs. We also had 7 keeper Striped Bass up too 28 lbs. However it was hard to get past the bluefish. All fish were caught on jigs down the Jersey shore beaches.

Our 5 pm trips have been pretty much a repeat of the MArathon trip but just outside our jetty every afternoon has seen some very good jig fishing for both Striped Bass and Bluefish.

Our Full day Fluke fishing was very good earlier last week around the Coney Island flats but began to peter out early this week we have seen a few Doormats out by the Fisherman Bouy area, Joe Pace had fish of 6.5 lbs and 7.2 lbs. A few more warm days and the fishing off there should really take off. Locally inside our bay has been tough with high water temps. inside the bay, outside the water is alot cooler, so the fishing has been better outside than close to home for us, lately. We sail on our full day fluke trips everyday except Tuesdays, Tuesdays are our Special Full Day Striped Bass trips.

Striped Bass marathon Jume 14 Good pick of Striped Bass up too Daves 25 lb fish. we had 12 keepers for 12 fisherman, plus around 100 bluefish, We lost a few big bass also. Good trip alot of fun. Too bad u missed it

Update May 31 2005  FLUKE fishing has improved greaty this past week as many trips saw customers limit out, plus all the short action you can handle here is a blow by blow, day to day report.

Striped Bass Fishing has been very good most nights, with plenty of schoolies and keepers mixed in, Our SPECIAL STRIPED BASS MATRATHON TRIP on Tuesday May 31 was absolutely INSANE!! as 18 fisherman limited out with big Striped bass up to 36 lbs. plus hundreds of bluefish were also boated on this trip. This is our 3 rd STRIPED BASS MARATHON TRIP this year guys ALL 3 have been TERRIFIC, We WILL CONTINUE THESE TUESDAY STRIPED BASS MARATHON TRIPS THROUGHOUT JUNE!

WEAKFISHING has been a struggle, we did catch some on Sat nites trip but other than that our NITE TRIPS have been all STRIPED BASS AND BLUEFISH. Hopefully the weakies will arrive soon in FORCE!

Thurs May 26, We fished local on Thurs and did very well with only 5 passengers on a trip that I cut short to get a few things done n the afternoon around the boat. Dan Bernstein had his limt by 11:22 am with fish up too 4 lbs. There was loads of shorts also.

Fri May 27 Fluke trip again we had very good fishing this morning close to home as Jack Lyons limited out by 9:45 am. However by 11 am the fish turned off for us, so we blasted off down the Rockaway Beach and proceded with a decent pick of Shorts and keepers. Jack won the pool today with a 6.8 lb Fluke which was also our biggest of the week.

Fri May 27 pm trip Fishing tonite was tough, we started out jigging out around our jetty where we have been fishing all last week and we did catch some bluefish and a 2 keeper striped bass on the jigs, the fish were there, they were suicidal tonite you had to fish to catch them. After dark we ran back inside our bay where we have been worming and caught 15 shorts and 3 keeperstriped bass no weakfish tonite. Total catch 80 bluefish 5 keeper striped bass, 21 passengers.

Mon May 30 pm trip.We caught the bluefish pretty well tonite as many limits were caught, on the jigs during the light we had 2 keep striped bass on the jigs also. After dark it was good fishing for the Striped Bass as 15 keepers were brought into the boat in addition to 30 or so shorts.

Tues May 31 STRIPED BASS MARATHON TRIP,
18 people aboard FULL BOAT LIMT ON STRIPED BASS up to Davids 36 lb pool fish. THATS 2 a man 36 keepers, plus hundreds of bluefish most 6-10 lbs. all on jigs down the Jersey Shore. We have another STRIPED BASS MARATHON next Tuesday at 8 am.

Vinny Mauro limit 29 and 24 lbs. 5/24/05 Full day Striper Trip
WED MAY 24 2005 update:  May 18 FLuke Trip. We have been fishing down the Rockaway Beach inshore of the reef, and been catching fluke in 40' pretty good, mostly shorts a few keepers mixed in, when the Striped Bass AGAIN invaded the area. We put jigs on and got a full boat limit 15 guys on the bluefish and had 14 keeper stripers in addition to 10 keeper fluke up too 4 lbs. Great day along the beach.

Wed May 18 PM trip. Went looking for the jig fish down the beach we couldnt find them tonite. We did jig 7 keeper bass and a couple blues but it was not the slaughter fishing we have become used to this week. We went back into the bay, put the sandworms on and got into the stripers and our first WEAKFISH of 2005 a 13 lb fish. Caught by Ian, Bass up too 19 lbs tonite and the blues made it for an ok nite. Action was good but far from spectacular.

May 19 Fluke trip. Really good fluking around Nortons Pt. Brian Prelue limited out, Al Vargas took the pool with a 5.4 lb FLuke. We had 31 keepers for 11 passengers plus all the short action u can handle.
We fished Nortons Pt. the next two days Fri and Sat and basically it was a repeat of Thursdays fishing, tons of shorts some keepers pool fish was around 4 lbs.

Sat May 21 pm trip. We jigged the bluefish pretty good in Coney Island Channel while it was light it was fair to good fishing with about 80 bluefish for 17 people in 1 hour, after the sun went down. We put on the worms and bango it was insane fishing for the remander of the trip, mostly short striped bass but 6 GIANT WEAKFISH also came up, in addition to 8 keeper stripers. Pool fish went to Flavio Kim with a 23 lb Striped Bass, other notsable catches were Tina Sibilio with a 9 lb Weakfish, Patrick Taylor with a 11 lb WEAKFISH an Joe Aguila with a 13 lb WEAKFISH.

Sun May 22 Fluke trip. Again we went to the East today and caught fluke inshore of the Rockaway reef. Pool fish was 5 lbs. There were a few keepers in the mix but fishing was mostly shorts.

Sun May 22 PM trip. 11 passengers caught the bluefish VERY good on jigs during light, as well as 2 keeper striped bass and a 12 lb weakfish on jigs during light. After sunset on the worms fishing was excellent we would up the nite with 18 keeper striped bass up too 19 lbs, one lone giant 13 lb weakfish, and a complete boat limit on blues, in addition to at least 35-40 short striped bass. The WORMING IS GETTING INSANE!! NOW IS THE TIME! GET ON DOWN!

Tuesday FULL DAY STRIPED BASS SPECIAL: On a bad forecast, turned out to be a beautiful day 8 passengers, we started inside Jamaica Bay and got no bites on the clams on 3 different drops. So I decided to head to where we fished last week off Great Kills in Raritan Bay. We steamed there, apon arriving we proceeded to pick at the BIG STRIPERS, we didnt catch a fish under 18 lbs. The pool fish went to Vinny Mauro with a 29 lb fish. Part of his limit. I did notice that the fish, were hitting very light, so you really had to pay attention to your rod. The fish definatly werent screeming line off the reels when they picked up the bait. Maybe they were hitting light because of the front coming in?? We still would up pretty good for the day. Our next full day STRIPED BASS trip is scheduled for May 31 8am-4pm.

FULL DAY STRIPER SPECIAL 5/17/05
WED May 18 2005 update: Action on the Fluke front has inproved as we have been seeing more and more fluke both keepers and shorts out in front along the Rockaway Beaches. As a bonus there has also been acres of Striped Bass and Bluefish along the beach also, and most days we have been in the middle of a bluefish and striped bass blitz at some time during our fluke trips. So if you want to catch some delicous fluke for dinner then load up with some Stripers and Blues then a full day trip aboard our vessel is in order for you. We sail on these trips everyday at 8am returning around 3:30 pm. The big fluke for the week is a 5 lb. fish.

Our evening trips have been unbeleivable with all trips with the exception of Sat. Nites trip being all out slaughter fishing on the diamond jigs for BOAT LIMIT catches of BLuefish with quite a few STRIPED BASS mixed in. Most bluefish have been from 407 lbs, with the occasional 10 lb fish thrown in. Pool Stripers have been averaging around 15lbs. So far the weakfishing has been slow for us unfortunatly. I expect them really soon, but the Stripers and the blues more than make up for the lack so far of weakfish. We sail on the afternoon trips every FRI< SAT< SUN< MON And WED afternoons at 5pm, returning around 10pm, light crowds and limit catches have been the norm this week come on down and have a ball.

Our SPECIAL FULL DAY STRIPED BASS TRIP, 5/17/05 12 passengers had all they can handle on our SPECIAL TRIP today. We Began the day clammin up in Raritan bay, and caught a few Stripers keepers and shorts, however I felt we could do better, so I left the fleet, and found a huge school of hungry STRIPED BASS feeding on top, we put the diamond jigs on and when the smoke cleared we had kept a complete boat limit 24 fish on the Stripers, and about 50 fish released.

with Mike Anthony taking pool honors with a 23 lbs fish. Harry Bissell boated 6 keepers and 10 shorts keeping his limt of 2 bass and releasing all the others unharmed. Only a few bluefish were mixed with these Stripers today. CAN ANYONE SAY STRIPED BASS SPECIAL!

BLUEFISH INVASION 5/9/05

May 10 2005 update:   The good fluking we saw the later half of last week definatly slowed down to a crawl since the blow on Sunday. The water temp did drop a bit, so hopefully itll bounce back in next couple days. We have been seeing a few keepers and some shorts on our fluke trips on Mon and Tues however no where near what we had before the blow.

STRIPERS AND BLUES: On the other hand the blow pushed the bluefish and the striped bass in SOLID. On the weekends trips we were worming in Jamaica Bay with light crowds and did catch many many shorts and we averaged 6 keepers a trip, all the fish were caught on worms after dark. Monday Nghts trip, 6 passengers BEAT THE HECK out of the BLUEFISH and STRIPED BASS on JIGS outside our inlet. We had a complete boat limit on blues fish from 3-9 lbs. Thats now 15 blues a man. 7 short stripers, 5 keeper STRIPERS It was insane non stop action and now that the jig fish are here our 5pm trip is the PERFECT TIME TO COME ON DOWN AND PULL ON FISH TILL YOUR ARMS GET WEARY.

We sail on our afternoon trips 5 days a week. Mon Wed Fri Sat and Sun afternoon at 5pm returning around 10pm.

We have also added TWO "SPECIAL" DAYTIME STRIPED BASS TRIPS. On Tuesday May 17 and Tuesday May 24 at 8am FULL DAY STRIPED BASS FISHING

Giammarino Family Reunion 5/5/05
May 6 2005 Update:   Hey guys just in from our 1st fluke trip of 2005. It was a huge success, as a nice body of Fluke have moved into our bay. High hook today was Jimmy Dahl with 4 keepers and 11 shorts. Bill Giammarino from Staten Island had the pool fish all day at 4lbs. Until the last drift of the day. When his brother of all people; Louis Giammarino drilled a fat 5lb FLuke to take the pool. The Fluke are here, come on down.

Striped Bass fishing is really starting to heat up, and Weakfish and Bluefish have hit the deck of our boat this week. I cant wait till this weekends trips. Should be an EXPLOSION TYPE weekend. On both day and nite trips.

5/3/05
May 3 2005 update:   Hey guys sorry for the long time between reports. As I am ALWAYS on the water its kinda hard to find the time to report everyday. Here is a rundown of the last weeks trips.
Flounder Fishing; We are fishing Romer Shoals and the Cedars on a daily basis and the fishing has been very good, with most days seeing high hook in double digits. Most of the fish have been caught on sandworms. Pool fish have been averaging, around 2.75 lbs. alot of Striped Bass and some ling have also taken the flounder hooks on our ocean flounder drops. Today in fact 5/3/05 we had 10 passengers, and we ran into the mother lode of STRIPED BASS, we switched everyone over to diamond jigs and in no time at all had our 20 keepers, ON THE FIRST DRIFT. We made a couple more drifts and RELEASED at least another 20 keepers plus a few shorts. We WILL CONTINUE to sail on our full day flounder trips as long as the flounder fishing remains as good as it has been. These last few weeks. Now is the time to FULL UP YOUR FREEZER ON OUR FULL DAY FLOUNDER TRIPS. Sundays trip had over 60 FLounders for 12 passengers fishing Romer and the Cedars.
Striped Bass fishing; Has improved tremendously, in fact it couldnt get any better than it was today. On our night trips, we have been clamming and/or worming depending on the conditions, and have been catching striped bass on both methods. A nice body of fish has moved into our bay, although mostly shorts. Today in fact 5/3/05 we had 10 passengers, and we ran into the mother lode of STRIPED BASS, we switched everyone over to diamond jigs and in no time at all had our 20 keepers, ON THE FIRST DRIFT. We made a couple more drifts and RELEASED at least another 20 keepers plus a few shortsWe have been seeing Bigger STRIPED BASS outside in the ocean. Our 5 hour trip give us plenty of time to go to where the fish ARE. We sail on the striped bass trips every Fri Sat Sun Mon and Wed afternoon at 5pm returning around 10pm. We also catch bluefish and weakfish on our afternoon trips. We have already caught our first weakfish and our first bluefish this last week, and with the Striper fishing we had today, guys get down on one of these exciting trips. Put new line on the reels and hold on.

Thursday Night April 21 update:

This week the flounder fishing REALLY took off first in our bay, then it petered out as soon as it looked like it was gonna get good. We relocated the flatties outside our inlet, and boy have we been doing a number on them since. Here is a day by day recap since Sunday April 17.

Sunday April 17, We had a decent crowd on Sunday and we did boat 64 flounders all the way back up inside Jamaica Bay, as usual for the back of the bay most fish were caught on the drift. We did see some fish on every drop we made all day. Flounder fishing looked like it was finally gonna break open. Went home from flounder trip satisfied that tomorrow would be the day. James Ostapak age 7, showed up everyone on board and took first place pool honors with a 2.63 lb flounder.Tonites Striper trip was slow as we fished inside Jamaica Bay and only managed a few shorts on clams.

Monday April 18, After a decent day yesterday I was all jeweled up for a banner day today, great weather, light crowd. However it wasnt in the cards as we boated 25 fish, for half the number of passengers the previous day. Pool fish went 2.52 lbs. All in all it was a disappointing day for me after yesterday as I really thought we should have done Alot better. Tonites Striper trip was a repeat of last nights just a couple shorts on clams, water need to warm up a bit in the bay for the stripers.

Tuesday April 19, This morning we once again started out in our bay, only 4 fish were on the boat at 10 am, when I decided enough was enough. Time to look outside our inlet. Boy was I glad I did. Only had to make one drop for the rest of the day outside our inlet, as we picked 40 flounders in a matter of 2 hours. Ed Hauser was high hook. We also got a new derby leader on this drop Brian Travers with a 2.92 lb. Giant 19" long flounder. In addition to the flounders we also caught 15 schoolie stripers on the flounder baits. I was VERY glad to see the ocean start to come to life, because as every flounder fisherman knows, once they start biting in the ocean man can it get good and boy did it ever. We do not sail on Striper trips on Tues night.

Wed. April 20 This morning we steamed right back to the numbers outside in the ocean, where we fished yesterday afternoon outside our inlet, We had 30 flounders in the boat in the first hour fishing alone. Then we continued a steady pick all day, never leaving that drop because there was constantly a fish or two on all day. We ended up the day 1 stop shopping 1 drop for the day, with over 100 GIANT flounders on the boat. Joe Allen was high hook with 10 flatties. In addition we also had 25-30 schoolie stripers bite the flounder hooks. I cant wait to get out here on our afternoon Striped Bass trip. Tonites Striped trip, the wind came up from the Southeast around 30, and we only had 5 passengers, so we opted to stay local in our bay, and only 1 schoolie was caught. Friday night we'll definatly be outside our inlet also on our Striper Trip.

Thurs April 21; 6 passengers on boat, we went right to the numbers where Ive have been fising, outside our inlet, the previous two days, and was hoping for good things after yesterday, I was not disappointed. Again one drop hopping today and when the smoke cleared. Full buckets were the norm. High hooks included, Mike Ostermann from Glendale and James Rickerson from Elmhurst with 30 flounders between them. Jack Lyons and Vinny Mauro combined for 16 flounders, 13 yr old Adam and his older sister Teresa combined for 17 flounders. Even my mate Ryan and I got into the action due to the light crowd and the FLOUNDER BLITZ we added another 14 combined. Pool fish was Vinny Mauro with a 2.78 lb GIANT flounder. We also boated around 30 schoolie stripers on the flounder baits. I will definatly be fishing here on Fri Nites Striper Trip also.

Most fish have been caught on sandworms and clam strips. NOW IS THE TIME TO LOAD UP on these delicious flounders. Remember guys "NO ONE KNOWS JAMAICA BAY, and THE GIANT FLOUNDER THAT LIVE THERE LIKE THE CREW OF THE CAPT. MIKE."

Nice flattie.
Sunday April 10, 2005 update:  Today was the ideal day to be out on the water, sunny warm gorgeous day. Besides the weather the fishes also started to cooperate. We had 20 Giant Flounders in the boat before 10am. We wound up with 42 fish hitting our deck by the days end. As most brought home a delicous flounder dinner. High hook honors went to Vinny " Otto" Guidance with 5 fat flounder. Most of our fish were caught on the mussel bait today, and drifting nice and slow, was the key to putting together our first decent catch of the year. As the water warms up guy this is a SURE sign of things to come. This week I think, the bay will break wide open. We will be there will you.

April 4, 2005;  Just when fishing looked like it was about to break open, another rainy nasty weeknd. This week however looks like a gem. The nice weather this week will surely get the flatties going. Last week we had a few days with guys with 2 or 3 fish, this week in the 60's I think Jamaica Bay will explode. The fishing for us has been much better on the drift, when conditions are right; than it has been on anchor. On Wed Bill Auletta had 3 keepers, and won the pool. On Thurs Efrain Navedo won the pool, Robert Malone on leave from the navy decked two on Fri and won the pool. Sat the heavy rains came AGAIN. On Sunday a few fish were landed in the heavy winds.

March 20, 2005 update:  Our 2005 season has begun. On Saturday, besides everyone enjoying their free corned beef sandwiche
